Art Friday, held since 2012, is Konstrundan’s annual event for children. Each year, a short film is produced with an artist introducing themselves and presenting an art-educational task for children. Art Friday is a free event centered around the visual arts, offering many benefits: it supports children’s wellbeing, stimulates imagination, and strengthens self-confidence, while also ensuring equal access to art regardless of background. The film is distributed to all comprehensive schools in Finland and released in November. This year’s Art Friday will take place on November 6.
The artist of the year: Marjo Pitko
The featured artist for Art Friday 2026 is Marjo Pitko (Master of Fine Arts). She works as a fine art printmaker and visual arts educator in Meri-Lappi, and her work combines themes such as the sea, the river, and the rhythm of northern nature. Her artistic expression emerges through an interplay of drawing, painting, and photography, printmaking tying these elements into a cohesive whole. Alongside her artistic practice, she inspires people of all ages to engage with visual art.
This year’s art assignment
In this year’s Art Friday activity, participants are invited to explore the world of printmaking in a playful and experimental way. The process draws inspiration from both summer memories and traces in nature, which are then transformed into personal artworks.
